1. Infected Sinuses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If your child\u2019s bad breath is accompanied by a sore throat\nor a stuffy nose, then it might be a sign that their sinuses are infected. The\nsmell is a side effect of fluids that have collected in the throat, giving\nbacteria a place to gather. You should seek medical attention for your child if\nyou think they have a sinus infection; hopefully the issue can be treated with\na prescription of antibiotics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Swollen Tonsils<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You can check your child\u2019s tonsils (two soft tissue masses\nlocated at the back of the throat) with a flashlight. If they\u2019re red, inflamed\nor have white spots, it means they\u2019re infected \u2013 and they can smell terrible as\na result! Like with infected sinuses, a professional can examine your child\u2019s\ntonsils and give them an antibiotic to help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. A Foreign Object in the Nose<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Did you know that your child putting small objects in their\nnose could affect their breath? If a bead, bean, toy accessory or bit of food\ngets stuck deep in the nasal passages, it will start to smell. 5. Tooth Decay and Gum Disease<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Bad breath could be caused by cavities, gum disease, mouth\nsores and other oral infections. Of course, in this case the smell will be the\nleast of your child\u2019s worries; they could potentially lose their teeth if the\ninfections aren\u2019t treated. Never assume that bad breath just means your child hasn\u2019t\nbrushed. The smell could have any number of causes, and  brushing might not be enough to solve the\nproblem.
