1. Temperature Sensitivity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You might feel pain whenever you bite into something hot or\ncold. In some cases it will pass quickly, but other times it might linger for\n30 seconds or more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of the time sensitive teeth are a sign worn-down enamel\nand gum recession (both of which could be caused by another oral health problem\nbut might also just be the result of the natural wear and tear that comes with\nage). In these cases, you can treat your symptoms by switching to a toothpaste\nfor sensitive teeth while also avoiding especially hot, cold or acidic foods.\nHowever, if sensitivity doesn\u2019t improve after a week, there\u2019s a good chance of tooth\ndecay, fractures, exposed tooth roots or gum disease that needs to be diagnosed\nand treated by a dentist right away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Dull, Persistent Aches<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is probably what many people would consider \u201ctypical\u201d\ntooth pain. If you only experience minor, constant discomfort accompanied by\ngum swelling, it might just be a piece of food that got stuck in your teeth\nthat you can remove with thorough flossing. Tooth pain that extends to the jaw\ncould be a sign of nighttime teeth grinding, which can be prevented with a\nmouthguard.
